What I’ve learned about trying to sell things on Craigslist…
1. You don’t have to play fair or nice. You can cancel on people, chose another to buy your stuff, for no other reason than gut intuition. The same for choosing an apartment, piece of furniture etc, you can cancel and buy something else if you want. Its the Wild Wild West of dealing and trading and you have to know when to walk away for a better value.
2. NEVER EVER email a seller 3 times in 24 hours saying you want something. I find you annoying and will preferentially choose to ignore you…if I have gotten other responses. Which I had.
3. Always post pictures of your stuff online, I know I ignore picture-less listings as a buyer, why would I not think everyone else is the same.
4. Always better to price to sell than hold out for that 1 desperate person. I get cash in my pocket, get to call terms, and in general have a better selection of people to choose from and therefore backups if someone falls through given Point 1.
5. Keyword use is vital in your listings - your descriptions via followup emails are even more important.
