I forget sometimes that I actually do like being an American. I hate so much about how our government is run, the politics, the special interests, the surmounting debt, the inequality, increasing taxes, loss of benefits, invasions I don’t support, and the general stigma of obese, narrow minded, overly religious yet very ignorant ”middle American” citizens.
But really, this country is kinda great.
We are a country of innovative thinkers. We have been the cowboys, the frontiersmen in the sciences and arts. We always are thinking about how to go get what’s beyond the horizon.
I get to enjoy personal freedoms as an American. Yes, so do many other countries, but there are still many that don’t really support laws governing complete freedom of speech, separation of church and state, equal voting rights, and other pivotal concepts that keep this country strong.
I want to celebrate that in a time where monarchs still reigned, some brave men sought to provide a government that dictated legislation based upon representation. Who dared to declare a king was not greater than the governed people.
And who doesn’t enjoy a cold beer, lighting up some sparklers, wading in a creek, grilling, and doing all those aw-mur-i-cuhn things every now and again?
